c.3rd / 4th Century A.D. A small but very nicely detailed Roman bronze Lion head mount found some years back on a Roman Villa site in Gloucestershire and from a Midlands collection. Although small this bronze mount has been very well executed and has well defined and sharply detailed head with clear detail of nose, face, eyes and ears. Hollowed out longitudinally at back for mounting on to a casket or other decorative item, possibly once silvered or gilded but now merely bronze, intact and in very nice condition with good surfaces and a pleasant dark patination, 11mm wide x 10mm high x 1mm deep
