c.8th/9th Century A.D. A small but very ornate Anglo Saxon silvered bronze hinged strapend found in Lincoln and from a Lancashire collection. Chip carved design on main body of an entwined serpent like creature with a small rivet hole at either end for fixing to a leather strap or similar item, the semi-circular hinged end section features a carved stylised tree like design with a small rivet hole either side, under the lower tree limbs. Small surface pit on underside otherwise intact and in very good condition overall with traces of original silvering still in evidence, a scarce and interesting Saxon artefact, 28mm long x 8mm wide.
