Product Description
c.200,000 to 100,000 BC. A small Paleolithic Mousterian (Neanderthal) "Levallois Industry" flint hand axe found many years ago at St.Albans, Hertfordshire and from an old Norfolk collection. Clearly worked from a thick triangulated flake of a pale grey and white flint, in turn struck from the top of a large pre-prepared flint core (i.e.Levallois), smooth underside but worked on upper surface to form the axe blade edges on either side with a raised medial plateau on the top. Intact and in very good overall condition condition with pleasant surface ageing and patination. An affordable example of an Early Neanderthal flint hand axe, approx. 90mm long x 62mm wide x 25mm thick
