Ptolemaic period c.300 - 100 B.C. A small stylised Ancient Egyptian Faience amulet of Hatmehyt (Fish Goddess). An attractive turquoise glazed faïence amulet depicting Hatmehyt in the guise of a Fish with a small suspension loop on the dorsal fin. [Hatmehyt was the Fish Goddess of life and protection and was associated with the primal waters of the creation myth from which all living creatures arose. To the Ancient Egyptians, the Fish symbolised happiness, joy good fortune, abundance and general prosperity as well serving additionally as a protective deity]. A minute chip to glaze one side on tip of of tail (not detracting) otherwise is totally complete, in very good condition with lovely radiant colour, supplied in a display box, 15mm long x 8mm high.
