c.60,000 - 40,000 B.C. A superb and very attractive large Neanderthal [Mousterian] flint pointed side scraper from Reculver, Kent. Expertly formed from a good sized triangular section flint flake with a most attractive banding and deep shiny toffee colouration, fine and detailed working along main lateral edge almots forming a denticulated blade. [This tool was excavated in the 1970's from an eroding cliff face at Reculver, Kent which was once the site of a lost river channel with gravel terraces on either side and inhabited from c.450,000 to 60,000 years B.C. Remains of the animals killed for food were also evident at this site and mainly consisted of Wooly Mammoth, Wooly Rhino and Aurochs]. Wonderful colour and lovely surfaces with nice surface ageing, an appealing Neanderthal flint tool, 65mm long x 35mm wide x 20mm thick.
