Neolithic period c.4000-3200 B.C. A Huge, heavy (1.3kg) and superb Neolithic flint "Livre le Buerre" (i.e.Pound of Butter) "Long Blade" core found in the early 20th Century at the very famous Prehistoric site of Le Grand Pressigny, Touraine, France. Ex. Maurice Chevais Collection [Maurice Chevais (1880-1943) was a French composer and Inspector of School music teaching in Paris, a pioneer in the history of music teaching in fact and keen collector of French Lithics]. His huge prehistoric collection was amassed from 1910-1935 on his regular visits to the family home near Le Grand Pressigny. This huge and imposing core is fashioned from the attractive Honey / Toffee coloured flint synonymous with the area and is the result of the famous Neolithic industry at Le Grande Pressigny of the production of large elongate flint blades (Long-blades) which were hafted into handles to be used as long knives and hand sickles. The core features copious clear flake and blade removals. Totally intact and in excellent condition with a lovely "old collection" shiny surface patina, A scarce, particularly large and imposing "Livre le Buerre" core from both a very notable location and collection, Approx. 220mm long x 90mm at widest x 60mm at thickest and weighing in at 1.3kg. Comes with an acrylic display stand.
