SOLD
c.2500 B.C. A very large and superb quality Neolithic flint axe found in the 1960's in the garden of the Vicarage in Methwold, Norfolk and from an old Norfolk collection. A very impressive and sizable example, of fairly slim section, very well defined and symmetrical, expertly worked all over with much pressure flaking around its perimeter to finely hone the axe's blade edges which are all still sharp to this very day and show no visible signs of impact or use so this axe is highly likely to have been a fine quality example manufactured solely as either a tribal status piece or for as high status offering for deposition at a sacred or burial location. Totally intact and in superb, undamaged condition throughout with a lovely old surface ageing and patination, a truly lovely Neolithic axe and very tactile,
