Mid-Acheulian Period c.350,000 to 250,000 B.C. A very large, impressive and superbly patinated Paleolithic Cordate flint Hand axe from Sussex and from a old Southern counties collection. This substantial hand axe is expertly fashioned from a mottled grey flint (a few minor traces appear through the patination on the very butt end), bifacially worked throughout with a superb blade end of fine and slender section, still sharp to the touch around the edges. An old minor knock to one edge, not detracting however, otherwise totally intact and in super condition overall and imbued with the most attractive shiny Honey coloured surface patination so often found on the Southern British axes, a good sized and very appealing Mid-Paleolithic hand axe, 158mm long x 103mm wide x 34mm at thickest
