c. A.D.1400-1500. A very nice and good sized Tudor pewter "Latten Crotal Bell", complete and working. Crotal Bells or Rumble Bells as they are also known, were orb shaped handmade bells usually of bronze or pewter and containing a small iron ball which made quite a loud and distinctive tuneful rattle when shaken. These bells were affixed in quantity to Horses and carts to warn others to get out of the way much like a bicycle bell is today. Totally intact and complete with iron rattle ball, in very nice condition and a pleasant example of its type, found in Dorset. 29mm diameter x 35mm high
