Permian Period c.260 million years ago. A very nice and well detailed Goniatite, a Cephlapod related to the modern day Octopus and Squid with a simplistic coiled, chambered shell and a predeccesor of the Ammonite. These extinct Ammonoids flourished in the ancient seas from the Mid-Devonian c.390 mya through to the late Permian c.251 mya. This is a particularly nice example with a nicely coloured, calcified shell, good surfaces and nice detail. Feint old repair at mouth of shell otherwise intact and good. Ex old Suffolk collection. A nice example of the type. 75mm at longest x 43mm at widest.
