c.2400 B.C. A very nice Danish Neolithic flint Adze from an old early 20th century collection. Very nicely worked all over with flat underside, typically humped top side, copiously flaked down the sides, and also to the main cutting edge. Adzes were sturdy narrow axe like tools which would have been hafted with the flat underside facing down and often in a slightly curved wooden handle and were used for the shaping and hollowing out of wooden items. A very nice example of the type, totally intact with a good old surface patination highlighted in parts with iron oxide plus an old inked collection number on one side, 100mm long x 29mm wide x 24mm at thickest.
