c.300,000 - 200,000 B.C. A very nice early, English Paleolithic Cordate flint hand axe from an old established Canadian private collection. A very nice axe, from an even older collection and labelled in ink simply "England"; expertly fashioned from an attractive dark flint with a most attractive "Tortoise shell" like patination on one one surface, very suggestive of similar hand axes I have encountered from the South Cambridgeshire Brecklands i.e. Warren Hill area, which are of a similar dark flint and often exhibiting this very distinctive surface patination. A few very minor edge knocks (not detracting) otherwise intact and in very nice condition with good surface ageing, an appealing and tactile example of the type, 115mm long x 73mm wide x 30mm thick.
