c.300,000-200,000 B.C. A pleasant Lower Paleolithic "Acheulian" flint hand axe, Dordogne, France found in the early-mid 20th Century in Payzac in the Dordogne area of France. Expertly fashioned from a most attractive Toffee coloured flint, of true Acheulian form with some original pebble cortex remaining on butt (grip) end, bi-facially and well worked with clear defined blade edges. Old inked inscription on upper side citing "La Ferelie Pazac". From an old West Country collection, very tip lost in antiquity and patinated over (not detracting however) otherwise intact and in excellent condition with lovely colouration, good surfaces and ageing, an excellent and affordable Lower Paleolithic hand axe, 95mm long x 69mm wide x 36mm at thickest
