SOLD

c.2700-2400 B.C. A very nice Neolithic Hammer stone fashioned from a very hard whitish stone. Clear signs of repeated impact on one side. Hammer stones were used alongside other flint and stone implements as part of a typical Neolithic tool kit where an impact tool was required and Hammer stones were the tool used to peck and shape stone axes in readiness for later smoothing and polishing. A very nice example from a Wiltshire collection, old collection number on side. 55mm diameter approximately.
