c.2500 B.C. A very nicely worked Neolithic flint notched scraper / arrow shaft straightener tool found many years back in Norfolk and from a Norfolk collection. Fashioned from a triangulated mottled dar & light grey flint flake with all blade edges worked differently. One has been finely pressure flaked to form an almost serrated cutting or sawing edge, another has been knapped to form a simple sharp blade and the third features a skillfully formed and pressure flaked notched blade reminiscent of a shave hook. This interesting flint multi-tool was most likely used for the manufacture of wooden arrow shafts whereby extraneous knots and buds could be cut and shaved from a thin branch with the side blades and then the notched shave hook run up and down the shaft to smooth it and make it true along its length. Intact and in lovely condition with good surfaces and a pleasant surface ageing and patination. A very interesting and expertly worked Neolithic multi-tool, 39mm x 32mm x 4mm thick
