c.7th / 8th Century A.D. A a pair of very nice Anglo Saxon bronze "Caterpillar" (Equal Armed) brooches found near Cambridge and from a Cambridgeshire collection. Of typical form with a lightly humped bow with lateral ridge decorations at its apex and trefoil shaped terminals at either end; somewhat reminiscent of a caterpillar arching its body. Pin hinge at top end of underside and small catch plate towards bottom end. Pins missing and hook on catch-plate otherwise totally intact with decent surfaces and in very good condition with an attractive overall shiny dark green patinations, nice examples of the type, 44mm long x 7mm wide x 16mm at deepest.
