SOLD

c.2nd/1st Century B.C. A very rare and unusual Late Iron Age miniature votive pottery bowl excavated in the 1970's on a known Iron Age habitation site in Gloucestershire and from an old Essex collection. As it would have served little or no practical use it is theorised that it must have been used for votive deposition at a sacred place or in a small home shrine and possibly once contained a small portion of food as an offering to the Gods. A few very minor old knocks to rim (not detracting) but is otherwise intact, robust and in very nice overall condition, a pleasant and intriguing Iron Age artefact, 34mm diameter x 17mm deep.
