c.300,000-200,000 B.C. A well worked and pleasant Lower Paleolithic "Acheulian" flint hand axe, Dordogne, France found in the early-mid 20th Century in Payzac in the Dordogne area of France. Expertly fashioned from a pleasant dark coloured flint, of true Acheulian form with some original pebble cortex remaining on edges and rear side of butt (grip) end, bi-facially and well worked with a clearly defined and still sharp blade edge. From an old West Country collection, intact and in very good condition with decent surfaces and a pleasant old collection ageing and patina, an excellent and affordable Lower Paleolithic hand axe, 120mm long x 80mm wide x 32mm at thickest
