c.1st Century A.D. A very attractive cream coloured Roman terracotta oil lamp excavated many years back in Malta and from an old Suffolk collection. Of heavy and robust form with a nicely flared Volute spout, copius inscribed designs on upper surface, twin filler holes and remains of a suspension loop on top that would have once been used to hang it up in a room for illumination. Makers name stamped on base of lamp. Apart from part of suspension loop missing, the lamp is totally intact and in very nice overall condition, an appealing lamp, 103mm long x 69mm wide x 44mm deep.
