c.10,000 - 6,000 B.C. An attractively aged and patinated Mesolithic flint hand axe from Bedfordshire. A pleasantly worked and defined flint hand axe fashioned from a flat dark flint pebble with a pleasant tan / cream coloured outer cortex; cortex flaked away predominantly on one side to form a distinct and functional point and cutting / chopping blade edges. Fits in the right hand nicely and would have been an effective cutting tool. Nice ageing to worked blade edges and cortex on either side now nicely aged and patinated, further enhanced by iron oxide highlights. A very nice and tactile example of a Mesolithic hand axe, 94mm long x 69mm wide x 22mm thick.
