Hoxnian interglacial c.424k-374k BC (MIS 11) An excellent and attractive Lower Paleolithic "Clactonian" Proto hand axe found many years back at Wheelers Lane gravel pit, Canford, Dorset and from a Hampshire Geologists collection. A well worked piece fashioned from a most attractive black, blue, yellow and ochre coloured flint cobble with much of the original pebbel cortex still remaining on the main handle / butt end to facilitate a better grip on the axe. A very tactile piece with a lovely old Paleolithic colouration and surface patination. Intact and in excellent condition with lovely surface ageing and a nice shiny surface patina, an appealing early stone age hand axe, 105mm long x 70mm wide x 60mm deep
