c.80,000 - 60,000 B.C. An excellent and attractive Paleolithic Neanderthal (Mousterian) "Levallois" Flint Scraper tool from Sussex. Found in Ancient Gravel deposits being worked in the Sussex area and from an old London collection. Formed from a thick flake from the top of a small flint river cobble and fashioned using a simple Levallois technique and then retouched along edge to form a typically crude denticulated blade edge for cutting or scraping purposes. Beautiful old Palaeolithic surface colouration and patination featuring hues of red, brown and tan, intact and in very nice condition, a pleasant and tactile Neanderthal flake tool, 56mm x 45mm x 18mm at thickest.
