c.3000-2500 B.C. An excellent and heavy, Neolithic pecked and ground stone axe originally found in West Lutton, Yorkshire and from an old Victorian collection, remains of original collection label still on one side, "West Lutton" just visible. Expertly fashioned from a coarse (volcanic?) stone with a wide blade edge, semi-polished / ground on one side of blade. Some minor impact marks on blade edge (not-detracting) from use, otherwise totally intact and in very good condition, a large, heavy (c.0.6kg) and imposing stone axe, 138mm long x 73mm wide x 39mm thick.
