c.3000-2000 B.C. An excellent and rare, pecked and ground Neolithic stone pestle / hammer found near Leeds and from Yorkshire collection. Fashioned from a pale grey speckled granite like igneous stone this nice Neolithic domestic tool fits in the hand very nicely and would have been used to crush, pulverise and grind nuts, berries, seeds and other assorted food ingredients in-conjunction with a flat or concave stone surface, it has clear abrasive wear from use on one end. Intact and in lovely condition, a very nice example of a Neolithic domestic implement, 123mm long x 48mm x 33mm.
