c.20,000-15,000 B.C. An excellent and scarce Upper Paleolithic Flint / Chert hand sickle found in the early 1900's in the Dordogne, France and from an early 20th Century Kent collection. Expertly fabricated from an attractive grey / olive green banded stone and made from a gently curving flake struck from a large core, featuring a largely flat concave face but copious working on the outer convex face with a distinct medial ridge along its length. Fine re-working and pressure flaking along blade edges resulting in a fine denticulated edge. The butt end of the sickle obviously once had an integral tang, part of which still remains so was likely to have been hafted into a bone or antler handle for use. Small part of tang lost in antiquity otherwise totally intact and in excellent condition with still sharp edges  and a nice old collection surface ageing and patina, a very nice example of its type, 94mm long x 27mm wide x 12mm thick
