c.6th / 7th Century A.D. An excellent Anglo Saxon bronze "Zoomorphic Ansate" style brooch found some years back in Oxfordshire and from a Buckinghamshire collection. This unusual Saxon brooch features a narrow humped bow with a tapering decorative finial at the top and the lower section of the bow terminating in a nicely detailed Zoomorphic "Dragonesque" head with bulbous eyes an elongated snout. Pin hinge at top end of underside and small catch plate towards bottom end. Pin and most of catchplate now lost, otherwise brooch is intact with decent surfaces and in very good condition for its age with a pleasant overall dark green patination, a pleasant and appealing example of the type, 60mm long x 8mm wide x 20mm at deepest.
