Product Description

c.350,000-300,000 years B.C. An excellent Early Paleolithic "Clactonian" uni-facial flint flake hand axe found on the ancient foreshore of the River Orwell, Nacton near Ipswich, Suffolk and from an Suffolk collection. An early but skillfully worked hand axe prepared from a large flake struck from the outer edge of a large flatish flint nodule with pebble cortex remaining on outer surface to aide grip in the hand and then well worked on the opposing face to form distinct functional blade edges and point. Totally intact, with nice colouration and in very nice condition with good surface ageing and shiny patination to worked faces, a good and tactile early hand axe, 100mm wide x 80mm high x 32mm thick.
