Our Price:

35.00
c.450,000-350,000 years B.C. An excellent Early Paleolithic "Clactonian" flint handled scraper / knife tool, found on the ancient foreshore in the Hallowtrees area of the River Orwell, Ipswich, Suffolk and from an Suffolk collection. A well worked and unusual scraper tool fashioned from an elongate flake of black flint which forms a handle for use. Original pebble cortex remaining on lower surface to aide grip in use, well worked on upper side to form a well worked and defined cutting and scraping blade. Fits perfectly in the right hand for use with the thumb resting in a natural indent on the upper surface affording a good grip of the tool. A cleverly fashioned tool, totally intact and in very nice condition with a most attractive "old Palaeolithic" surface ageing and colouration, plus a shiny patination to struck surfaces, a appealing and tactle early hand tool, 84mm long x 48mm wide across blade edge x 26mm at thickest.
