c.1st Century B.C. An excellent "La Tene" style Celtic bronze toggle cloak fastener found many years back in Essex and from a London collection. The toggle fastener consists of a thick bronze hoop with embossed finials at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock, to the rear of the hoop a triangulated hoop which would have been stitched to one side of garment, the large decorative hoop would then feed through a botton hole or loop on the other side of the garment fastening it together. Section of fastening loop lost in antiquity otherwise toggle fastener totally intact and in very nice overall condition with good surfaces and a pleasant shiny dark olive green patina, a nice and unusual example of the type, decorative hoop 20mm diameter, overall length 32mm
