c.2500-2000 B.C. An excellent Late Neolithic perforated stone Axe / Hammer found on Skelton Moors, Yorkshire many years ago and from a Cornish collection. Skillfully fashioned from a pleasant, hard dark green/grey stone (Diorite?), flattened top and base with a well defined pointed axe blade at one end and a flattened hammer face at the other. Large hole painstaking bored though the axe centrally, for fixing to a large wooden handle. All surfaces then carefully polished smooth. A couple of very minor knocks to sides of axe blade from use otherwise totlly intact and a super example in lovely condition with good surfaces. 127mm long x 45mm wide x 28mm deep.
