c.60,000 B.C. An excellent Late Palaeolithic Neanderthal "Mousterian" flint projectile point from Reculver, Kent. A well defined Neanderthal flint point of trapezoid form with medial ridge down one side and retouched blade edges either side and a well defined point, fashioned from a dark green/brown flint with good surface ageing and a pleasant shiny patination. This tool was excavated in the 1970's from an eroding cliff face at Reculver, Kent which was once the site of a lost river channel with gravel terraces on either side and inhabited from c.450,000 to 60,000 years B.C. Remains of the animals killed for food were also evident at this site and mainly consisted of Wooly Mammoth, Wooly Rhino and Aurochs. A nice example of the type, 36mm long x 26mm wide x 12mm deep.
