c.50,000 B.C. An excellent Paleolithic Mousterian (Neanderthal) flint spear head found at the famous site of Les Eyzies in the Dordogne, France and from an old Victorian collection. Nicely fashioned from a pleasant light honey and grey coloured flint, uni-facially worked with a flat underside and distinct medial ridge on upper surface with still sharp blade edges struck away either side and a good functional tip. Most likely the tip from a thrusting spear for spearing animals at close quarters. Intact and in very nice condition with an attractive light surface smoothing and ageing, a good example of Neanderthal flint spear head, 65mm long x 43mm wide x 9mm thick.
