c.2nd / 3rd Century A.D. An excellent Roman redware terracotta votive wide bodied vase excavated in Tunisia, North Africa many years back and from an old Bournemouth collection. This lovely little vessel is a miniature version of a large squat ornamental vase / urn and was probably intended for votive deposition at a shrine or temple and possibly once containing some form of offering to the Gods. Very nicely made, robust and well proportioned; it features a small shallow pedestal base which then widens to a squat bulbous body, narrowing to short neck with a wide out turned rim. Tiny knock to under side of rim at one point (not detracting) otherwise totally intact and in lovely condition with good surfaces, a very nice example of the type, 45mm high x 57mm diameter
