c.19,000-15,000 BC. An excellent Upper Paleolithic unifacial flint arrowhead found in the Hallowtrees area on the banks of the River Orwell in Ipswich, Suffolk and from an old Suffolk collection. The arrowhead is expertly fashioned from a flake of pleasant dark flint, well worked on upper face to form a shallow medial ridge with sharp blade edges either side and a nicely defined and still sharp pointed tip. Butt end of arrowhead deliberately thinned to facilitate its inserting into the end of a wooden arrow shaft by which it would have been secured using natural resin and sinew. Tiny knock to very tip of arrowhead (not-detracting) otherwise intact with nicely patinated surfaces, a very nice example of the type from a notable Prehistoric site, 39mm long x 18mm wide x 5mm at thickest
