SOLD
c.1600 A.D. An exceptionally large and superb Elizabethan Period Pewter decorative Crotal Bell found in Suffolk and from an old Suffolk collection. These were attached to horses, carts or wagons to alert others much in the same way as a bell does on a bicycle. This superb example has been expertly cast in pewter, elaborately decorated all over and with the owners initials "M H" on both bottom segments. Complete with original iron ball inside and still works perfectly. A short and barely discernible fine crack on one side near the circle of the vent otherwise totally intact and in lovely condition, a choice example of the type and rare this large, 44mm diameter x 52mm tall
