c.2nd/3rd Century A.D. An expertly carved and decorated main body section from a Roman bone hair comb excavated in London in the 1950's and from an old London collection. Overlapping concentric circle decoration inscibed along top surface all within a rectangular border with a row of finely cut serrations along both long edges. Five rivet holes whereupon the carved bone teeth would have been sandwiched between two identical body sections such as this and riveted togther to make it much stronger and easier to hold, the centre rivet still in situ. Totally intact and in excellent condition, 97mm long x 15mm wide. A scarce and seldom encountered Roman artifact. [The last photo shows a representative example of a complete Roman bone comb]
