SOLD
c.9th-10th Century A.D. An extremely rare, complete, Viking clay pot found many years ago in Northumberland on a known Viking habitation site and reputedly hailing from the famous Lord McAlpine collection. A good sized, heavy and robust burnished clay pot of bi-conical form being made from two separate halves and then moulded together forming a mid-body seam with a round bottom and a wide and thick out turned rim. Possibly a small area professionally restored on one side of neck otherwise totally intact, un-repaired and otherwise un-restored. Good, sound surfaces with nice ageing and a light sheen from burnishing. A rare chance to obtain a complete Viking pot with an excellent provenance, approximately 130mm tall x 140mm diameter.
