c.3000-2000 B.C. A large and extremely rare Neolithic antler, Flint Flaking hammer and pressure flaking tool, of European origin and from an old London collection. A substantial tool fashioned from a deer antler with the larger end specially shaped and worked to form a flat edged hammer to allow targeted striking of flint axe rough-outs to remove larger flakes efficiently and accurately, the pointed end used for more delicate pressure flaking techniques to remove finer flakes and hone the blade edges of a knapped flint axe. A little wear and very minor damage to functional ends of the tool and gripping surfaces conducive with its use and an old but totally stable shrinkage crack on one side (not detracting) otherwise totally intact, very robust and and in very good condition for a Neolithic antler flaking tool, a seldom offered and very rare stone age item, 193mm long x 37mm diameter at thickest point.
