c.2500-2000 B.C. An extremely rare Neolithic ornately carved bone cloak pin with decorative finials from a Cornish private collection. Robust form with ornately carved "T" shaped head with large disc-like end finials and a centrally drilled hole for attachment to a suspension cord. Most likely used for fastening together an animal hide cloak or similar garment and the ability to fasten it to a cord attached to the garment would have helped prevent its loss. Originally excavated broken in three places this rare item has now been expertly repaired to whole and the feint repairs do not in anyway detract from the piece whatsoever, otherwise it is intact and in excellent condition for ancient bone and with a lovely old shiny surface ageing and patina, a superb and very rare Neolithic pin, 100mm long x 8mm thickest diameter, 38mm across head.
