Rare segments of an ornate Medieval leather belt with bronze decorations, River Thames (K9) SOLD

SOLD
c.14th/15th Century A.D. A pair of rare segments from a very ornate Medieval leather belt expertly adorned with a multitude of small bronze diamond and roundel decorative bronze appliques, excavated from the River Thames, London many years ago and from an old Irish collection. The original belt would most likely have been a fairly high status item and the bronze adornments when new, would really have glistened on the dark leather underneath. A rare find indeed as leather seldom survives especially after long term immersion in water but these two (contiguous) segments are still stable. Supplied in a perspex display box, top portion 54mm long x 20mm wide, lower portion 45mm x 20mm. Lower portion fits exactly to the left of the upper portion.
