SOLD

c.2nd/3rd Century A.D. The base of a large Roman red ware pottery Amphora found in Tunisia, North Africa in the 1950's and from an old Essex collection. This would have been a sizeable amphora, and is of thick and heavy construction, most likely for the storing of the oils and fish based sauces that the Romans so highly favoured. This segment is heavy, robust with stable surfaces and in nic condition. A scarce and seldom offerer pottery item, 145mm tall x 168mm diameter.
