Ancient Holy lands (Palestine). Old Testament period c.1200-800 B.C. A large and pleasant early Palestinian terracotta "Pinched" Oil lamp", from an old Suffolk collection. A very early hand moulded oil lamp of typical form with a large but shallow bowl shaped body with a simple pinched nozzle at one end into which a wick would have been laid and lit after first filling the lamp with oil. Some very light surface sand in places as excavated, a little surface roughness in parts and a small feint, but stable crack at rear of bowl (none detracting) as is to be expected from being buried in the sands for circa three millennia otherwise totally intact and un-repaired with sound surfaces and in very good condition for its great age. A good sized and appealing Old Testament period lamp, 120mm wide x 120mm long x 50mm deep.
