Ancient Holy lands (Palestine). Old Testament period c.1200-800 B.C. An excellent & rare Old Testament Period Terracotta "Pilgrims Flask" excavated in Palestine in the early 20th Century and from an old Suffolk collection. A very early hand moulded terracotta water flask commonly referred to as a "Pilgrims Flask" as water was scarce in the ancient Holylands and these flasks were easily carried by travellers and Pilgrimsl. An early form with simple bulbous main body with small stumpy neck and hand burnished all over to give smooth surfaces. A few very minor chips to rim and a small feint but stable shrinkage crack on one side (neither detracting) and as is to be expected from being buried in the sands for circa three millennia otherwise totally intact and un-repaired with good sound surfaces and in very good condition for its great age. A rare and appealing Old Testament period water carrying vessel, 100mm high x 90mm wide x 72mm deep.
